Rockin’ the House at Seven Grand

Darryl Holter Returns to The Seven Grand Monday, October 29

On September 24 a crowd of a hundred people climbed up two flights of stairs to the dark entrance of the Seven Grand to hear songs from our new album, “Crooked Hearts”.  It was the first show of a three-show residency at Seven Grand and it was a lot of fun!

I love this place.  It strikes me as what a 19th century whisky bar would be like:  a long bar well-stocked with thousands of bottles of Scotch and Bourbon and Rye, aged from 5 to 50 years, and a drink menu as long as your arm.

We opened the set with “West Bank Gone,” the title track of last year’s album and then went through several new songs, including “Crooked Hearts”, “November Rain” and “Backburner Blues.” The band sounded great with Ben Wendel on keyboards, Tim Young on guitar, Erik Kertes on bass, John Konesky on pedal steel, and Luke Adams on drums.  We threw in a song Woody Guthrie wrote in Los Angeles in 1939, “Big City Ways” and closed with “Walking the Long Miles Home.”

Fleeting Heart

After our set, the country-rock band Fleeting Heart took stage and dished out some great songs from their fabulous new album, featuring the brassy vocals of Kathleen Grace.  Is there a better bar song than Kathleen’s “Break This Heart”?  I don’t think so.

We will be returning to the Seven Grand on Monday, October 29 – along with Fleeting Heart — for more music and fun.  Mark your calendar and we hope to see you there! I’m on at 10pm, Fleeting Heart at 11.
